We always look forward to planning our December SMBRD event, but this year was bittersweet as we made the tough decision to discontinue SMBRD in the new year.
We went all out for our final breakfast though, with catering from Cilantro and Chive which included festive drinks and a waffle bar, cannoli from Sweet Capone’s, new SMBRD collector mugs chock full of goodies from some of our friends, and lots of door prizes to be won. Needless to say, the Scott Block was packed with a lot of happy people. While in previous years, we had put together some fun panels with local business owners to close out our year, this year we brought back a past speaker on a more serious topic. Dario Joseph Verrelli of Octopus and Sons came up from Calgary to speak with us about his mental health journey, an inspiring message for anyone, whether you’re an entrepreneur or not. We thought it was an important and timely message, as the holidays can be a difficult time for many but also to get us thinking about ways we can slow down and focus on ourselves in the coming year.
If you weren’t able to attend, we highly recommend checking out the Facebook live video.
And that’s a wrap.
Saying goodbye is never easy, but after 6 years of bringing networking, coffee, and all things social media learning to the people of Red Deer the third Thursday of every month, we thought that it was time for a break. We owe a huge thanks to all of our speakers, location sponsors, breakfast sponsors and title sponsors who have supported us over the years. Even bigger thanks go to all of the beautiful people who came to attend. What started out as a small group (like, small enough that we had everyone introduce themselves to start!), grew into nearly 100 attendees with a waitlist month after month.
Thank you Red Deer!
